HarmonyThe perfect and consistent repetition to decorate the garden with plants establish the harmony of different plants in your garden.
Plus, if your garden has a unique background like a lake or other water bodies like ponds, streams, or even a mountain then try to integrate that view into your garden.
If you don’t want to adopt any special design for your garden, you may maintain the harmony of your garden according to your need. 
For my kitchen garden, I planted herbs and vegetable plants near my kitchen so that I can easily access them. The ornamental plants and flowers surround the boundary of the garden promoting the beautification of the garden.
BalanceEquality or balance can be ensured in two ways i.e. symmetrical and asymmetrical

You can segregate the vegetable garden and flower garden. In each garden, using separate beds for each plant will help you to maintain the balance as well as taking care of plants will also become easy. 
ContrastContrast is important for soothing your eyes and feeling better in your mind. Mixing up plants with different heights or, planting different ornamental plants together may hamper the beauty of the garden. So, at the time of plantation, the point of perfect contrast may be kept in mind.
ColorA colorful garden triggers joy and gives a sense of true meaning of life to the people who are using the garden. Select the plants keeping in mind to form a combination of warm colors like red and cool colors like blue and green for making it eye-soothing.
TransitionKeep your garden peaceful by allowing a gradual change depending on the plant size and color of plants that you have selected for the garden.You may plant small herbs and leafy vegetables on the front side. Plant the ornamental plants to make the boundary of the garden.
LineMaintaining line is important for the entryways and walkways, separating the beds of two different crops. Keep the entryways and walkways of your garden clean and simple. It will help to keep your garden clear and you can easily look after every plant in your garden.
